Wednesday, May 17, 1987- Aurora, NY- A Concordia professor was reported missing yesterday by his wife after failing to come home following a late evening Kappa Theta fraternity meeting.
Rufus Greyhart, a professor of paleontology at Concordia for the past 15 years, is the faculty advisor for the fraternity. His wife told the police that she knew the fraternity meetings usually run late, so she had retired to bed around eight pm on Monday night, expecting her husband to be in well after midnight. When she awoke Tuesday to find he had never come home, she immediately knew something was amiss. “Rufus is just not the type to not come home,” stated Mrs. Greyhart. “He’s very punctual and routine. I can’t imagine what’s happened to him.”
Local police have scoured Concordia’s campus as well as the town of Aurora for Professor Geryhart’s vehicle, a 1985 silver Honda Acura. Nothing has turned up. “It just doesn’t make sense. A person and a car can’t completely disappear without a trace. They have to be somewhere”, stated Aurora Police Chief, Edgar Woodbridge.
In an effort to locate the vehicle, Woodbridge’s office has sent out bulletins to all major police headquarters within a 1,000 mile radius. “There’s only so far a vehicle can travel in one day”, states Woodbridge.
All of the Kappa Theta fraternity members present at the meeting have been questioned by the Aurora police and several have been held for further questioning. They have all reported that the fraternity meeting concluded at 11:30pm on Monday night and that Professor Greyhart left in his vehicle directly following the meeting. No further information was available from the police at the time of this article.
